Perfect Combination: Art Plus History

Art & History: Perfecto Kombinasyón Warning: "Cheesy" stuff in this blog entry :)) |
Somewhere
between the thoughts of peanut butter ‘n jelly, bacon ‘n eggs, coffee ‘n
creamer, milk ‘n cookies, and the never ending list of mash-ups lies art ‘n history, a combo you can never
pull apart.
Remember the paintings of
the cavemen from centuries ago? These troglodytes, without really knowing, used
art to mount and record their daily lives on their cave walls, creating history.
We don't know if they painted just to express their feelings or if they did it
for documentation purposes as if they knew that someday, someone might see their
works and know their story. But either way, when they started using their bare
hands to daub *paint on the walls, something “magical” happened. Imagine it
this way:
The
day the cavemen first soiled their fingers with paint and splotched it on the
wall was probably the day when art and history first crossed paths.
Sparks flew. Fire burned bright. A
perfect match made.
Two hearts
together, we’re a harmony so right
Two sparks
united, we’re a fire burning bright
For that
you’re always brand new
Right from
the jump we had a hunch
That we
had everything
Perfect
combination
ART plus
HISTORY
A perfect
combination
We couldn’t
ask for any better
The
connection that these two elements have is very dependent on each other. Without
art, there won't be history at all. Art serves as a proof and a confirmation
that something that happened is “history”. If it weren’t for those cave
paintings we wouldn't know that the ancient people actually lived in caves. Moreover,
we wouldn’t have had a peek of how they used to live back then and how much
civilization has improved already. If it weren’t for the sculpted temples in
Greece, we wouldn't be able to discover the beauty of the Greek culture. And if
it wasn’t for the papyrus invention
in Egypt, we will never know almost anything about history today and visual art
could not have taken flight, too. It’s amazing how these evidences of the past
still live on today. They are still alive and breathing, reminding us of what
has been in the past. As time went by, the methods of making art and history
last also got better and better. People valued preserving history even more and
started using art as their medium to do so.
Perfect
combination
We fit to
a tee
A perfect
combination
We know
what takes to last forever, together
So deep
inside we share a feeling that’s so rare
So sweet
just knowing that we are a special pair
Were right
on time, were two of a kind
And heaven
knows this love will grow
Stronger
every day
I
have some amusing experiences about art and history myself. It happens most of
the time when my parents clean up at home. Sometimes they find drawings my siblings and I made
when we were still three or four years young. We probably thought these
artworks were “Obra Maestras” back
then for us to be so proud to treasure them. Anyway, whenever I see these
drawings – circles for the heads, triangles for the bodies, three strands of
hair for each person and a ribbon on what’s supposed to be the forehead of the
girl figures, colored unevenly – I can’t stop reminiscing on the vague memories
I have of my childhood. Every single time my Mom and Dad sees these works of
art, they just won't let the moment to tell a story slide. They remind us of
who drew it, when, where, why and how it was drawn. They say every single
detail of the memory the have of the artworks on the torn notebook pages with
blue and red lines. I don't get annoyed whenever they do this, even though at
times the memory that’s embedded to the drawing is quite embarrassing. I
actually feel thankful that my parents kept those pieces of paper as reminders
of what we once were.
All I am saying is that this
^ is just a simpler explanation of how the strings of art and history are connected. This
personal experience of mine doesn't have much difference with the pair Art and
History. Art cannot live without history and history cannot live without art. It’s
the truth. And it's a perfect combination.
Perfect

ART plus
HISTORY
A perfect

We couldn’t

Perfect
